Yes, Mistplay is legitimate: it's run by Mistplay Inc., a Canadian company based in Montreal, and it does give gift cards and other rewards in exchange for units you earn by playing games you find through its app. But the rewards are small, the terms cap redemptions at $550 USD a year, units can expire if you stop earning, and the app collects detailed data about your play and in-game spending. It's a way to get a little back from games you'd play anyway, not a way to make money.
Key takeaways
- Who runs it: Mistplay Inc., Montreal, Quebec. New users must be 18 or older.
- How you earn: launch games through Mistplay and actively play; idle time doesn't count, and experience is capped at 2 hours a day per game.
- Limits: up to $550 USD of rewards per calendar year; units expire if you earn none for 180 days (longer in Quebec and Ontario).
- Not cash: its terms say units have no cash value and are redeemed for rewards such as gift cards.
How Mistplay works
You browse games in the Mistplay app, install one and open it through Mistplay. Its help centre says you need to launch games through Mistplay and actively play to earn: if you stop interacting with your device, you stop earning. Play earns game experience (GXP) for up to two hours a day per game, and progress earns units, up to a level cap of 20 per game. You then swap units for rewards in the app's Shop, mainly gift cards, with options that vary by country.
The terms updated on October 1, 2026 add that new US users of the Android app since June 30, 2026 are on an "events-first" rewards system, where you're rewarded for events defined in each game, such as milestones or in-game purchases. If you're in that group, check each game's details page to see what actually earns units.
Signs it's legitimate
- A named company: its terms identify Mistplay Inc. with a Montreal address, registered in Canada.
- Public, detailed terms: they spell out eligibility, limits, expiry, data use and how to appeal a suspension.
- Free to use: you don't pay to join. The app makes money from game developers who want players.
The catches in Mistplay's terms
| Rule | What the terms say | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| Yearly cap | Up to $550 USD (or local equivalent) in rewards per calendar year | There's a hard ceiling on what you can redeem |
| Expiry | Units expire if you earn none within 180 days; in Quebec and Ontario, after 1 year of inactivity with notice | Redeem before you take a long break |
| Rates vary | Different users can get different units for the same action; rates can be set by algorithms and loyalty tiers | Don't expect your earnings to match anyone else's |
| Verification | May require phone or email checks, a video selfie, a liveness check or government ID before you register or redeem | Be ready to verify, or rewards can be delayed or refused |
| Banned tools | No VPNs, multiple accounts, bots, emulators, autoclickers or rooted devices | Breaking the rules can cost you your units and account |
| Separate apps | Units in the Android and iPhone apps can't be combined or transferred | Pick one platform |
Watch your spending and your data
Mistplay's terms describe collecting gameplay data, including which games you play, your progress, play time, in-game purchases and ad interactions. It also rewards in-game purchases in some games with "Gems". That can make spending feel like earning, but buying in-game items to chase rewards almost always costs more than you get back. Read are reward apps safe? before you install, and set a time budget.
Is it worth it?
Mistplay doesn't publish an hourly rate, and we don't invent one: units depend on the game, your country, your tier and changes Mistplay makes. If you enjoy mobile games and would play anyway, the occasional gift card is a bonus. If you're looking for income, it isn't the right tool.
