Pick JustPlay if you're on Android and want frequent small cash-outs to PayPal or gift cards; pick Mistplay if you want to choose from a large catalogue of games, including on iPhone in the US and Canada, and you're happy redeeming for gift cards. Both pay small amounts for time spent playing, both rely on ads or sponsored games, and neither is a way to earn a real income. The best choice is the one whose games you'd enjoy anyway.

How Mistplay works

You browse Mistplay's game list, install a game and launch it from Mistplay. Its help centre says you need to open games through Mistplay and actively play to earn: time with a game minimised or idle doesn't count. Playing earns game experience (GXP), capped at two hours a day per game, and levelling up in a game earns units, up to that game's level cap (level 20, per its help centre). Units are redeemed for gift cards. Mistplay's iPhone app is separate from Android, and Mistplay says accounts and units don't transfer between them.

How JustPlay works

JustPlay's games are built into its own app. You earn coins by playing them and interacting with ads; coins convert into a cash value at regular cash-out periods (every 3 hours, per its store listing). Its terms say there's usually no minimum to cash out, most payouts are immediate but can take up to five business days, and coins expire six months after they're credited. The first cash-out may need a face scan and three hours of gameplay. Our JustPlay review covers the rules in full.

Which earns more?

We don't publish hourly-rate claims, because earnings depend on the games, your country, the ads served and changes the apps make. Both apps describe rewards as small. The reliable way to find out is to track your own time and payouts for a few weeks, as explained in how much do reward apps pay? and do game reward apps really pay?
